2003-05-21 - 8:22 a.m. - how I spent my San Francisco vacation

Thursday evening we arrived at Dave Marr's. At that point I wasn't sure how much of the weekend I would end up spending there, but I knew there was a party and sleepover planned the following evening. Dave Marr greeted us warmly and welcomed us into his home. At first glance I was dubious his home contained the necessary accommodations for a sleepover.

Just where the hell is anyone going to sleep!?

Friday we woke and went to see the new Matrix movie. We also did touristy stuff like take public transportation. The afternoon mostly involved cookies. I bought Oreos that were crazy mixed up backwards! The cookie parts were white and the creme part was brown. It was madness. Also I made chocolate chip cookies from scratch* for all the lovely guests that would be attending the evening's festivities. Everyone loves my cookies, you know it.

The party was lots and lots of fun. I got to see almost everyone I met last time I was in the area, plus meet a few new faces including Shaun and Charls.

I sooo need to take posing lessons from these two.

Chelsea and Whelp also came over for the party so I briefly met the famous Alexei who I've heard so much about.

Chelsea and Whelp are quite adorable and yet not disgustingly so because I love them both so much.

Most of what I remember doing throughout the evening is a lot of talking, which I guess is what you do at parties, and it was fun.

Ash, Laura and Jenny = hotties

I only remembered to take pictures when people were leaving, but damn good leaving pictures they are!

Especially this one.

So when you graduate high school and they give you crap to invite people to your stupid ceremony, included with the junk are these tiny cards printed with your full name on them. I recently found the ones that I had left over and tossed them in my bag with intentions of using them for something, someday. On Friday evening when Shaun went to give me his phone number, he hands me a card and mentions having them left over from graduation. I found this to be extremely funny and interesting, bringing mine out to exchange with him. His were albino style and mine were gothic but still, what are the odds!? What does it all mean!?

I don't know either but here's another picture! I think this is the happiest look I've ever seen on Anthony's face.

Saturday we went to breakfast then walked around a bunch of stores and looked at a bunch of things I wanted to buy but didn't - pats on the back for that one. Walking makes you tired so we lounged around back at Dave Marr's until it was time to get ready for a b-day party. Andie picked us up and drove a bunch of us in her RV so that made it feel more like an adventure and therefore more fun. At the party most people I came with didn't seem to know anyone who was there so we entertained ourselves. I must've drank a whole bunch because I had a lot of fun. Tollef found a sign on the building that said it was known to contain lead that "can cause mental retardation, fits (convulsions), falling out (unconsciousness, coma), and even death".

Sunday was super mellow, we went out for breakfast then went out for coffee too. We walked everywhere while we were there. That's what people there do.

Just in case you can't grasp this concept, here you see Ash and Dave Marr demonstrating how it works.

At the coffee shop we were talking about the previous evening and I said I was really drunk to which Anthony quickly said "yeah you were!" This coming from the dude who passed out in the RV on the way back, hehe. So later I asked him how he knew, am I a sloppy drunk or what? His response was something along the lines of "no, no... I can just tell because (here's where he looks off into the distance and ponders a bit) .. because you kind of sway a little bit", "I sway!?" .. "yeah.. not bad but like, oh, also when you're talking you don't look people in the eye like you usually do. You look around... like, as if your thought is actually outside of your head and you're following it with your eyes as you're talking." (correct me if I've got any of this wrong, A) I found this description to be excellent and hilarious!

One of my favorite things about San Francisco is that there is art everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Painted all over everything, doors, houses, sidewalks, you name it. But out of all the art I saw this weekend, only one piece really spoke to me. Behold:

Now if that isn't the work of an unsurpassed artistic genius, I don't know what the hell is.

I decided on the drive home that it was kind of cool to drive instead of flying like last time. For some reason it made the place seem closer, which doesn't make sense but it just did so trust me on this - maybe it's the accessibility factor and that a car feels more like home so I was kind of like I was home except for the time I wasn't in my car? Whatever.

In conclusion, San Francisco is filled with nice people who want to let you hang out at their houses and hugmongers who smother you with hugs every chance they get! Some people do both, which is even better. This is the second time I've gone up there and just had the most incredible and delightful stay with someone who I met only upon arrival. Dave Marr is seriously the coolest guy ever! I also received so many hugs from different people that I can now be considered a complete hug whore.

The end.
